Saansad adarsh gram yojana (SAGY) was launched by the Hon'ble prime minister on 11 Oct 2014 with the vision to translate the comprehensive and organic vision of Mahatma Gandhi, of an ideal Indian village into a reality, keeping in view of the present context. The SAGY envisages triggering processes that lead to holistic development of the identified gram panchayats and thus bringing substantial improvement in the quality and standard of life among all sections of population. The ‘Adarsh grams' are to become models or schools of local development and governance, inspiring neighboring gram panchayats to learn and practice the models of development. Under SAGY, Hon'ble MPs from Lok sabha has selected villages in their own constituencies while Hon'ble Rajya sabha MPs have selected villages from the state they represent. It is targeted to develop one village from each parliament constituency as a model village by 2016 and two more by 2019. The district collector/deputy commissioner will be the nodal officer for implementing the SAGY. The district collector/deputy commissioner will be appointed a charge officer of sufficient seniority for coordinate &implementation of SAGY. The DDUGJY scheme approved by the union government draws its inspiration from the similar pioneering scheme implemented by the government of Gujarat. This scheme will enable to initiate much awaited reforms in the rural areas. It focuses on feeder separation (rural households & agricultural) and strengthening of sub-transmission & distribution infrastructure including metering at all levels in rural areas. This will help in providing round the clock power to rural households and adequate power to agricultural consumers .the earlier scheme for rural electrification viz. Rajiv gandhi grameen vidyutikaran yojana (RGGVY) has been subsumed in the new scheme as its rural electrification component.
