The Health & Family Welfare Department has been vested with the responsibility of maintaining and developing the health care system in Assam. Public health, sanitation and hospitals are the exclusive responsibilities of the State. A healthy citizen contributes to make a healthy nation. Over the years, the government has introduced various health programmes and policies to better the standard of life of its citizens.Health and wellness are prime concerns of the Government.Department of Health & Family Welfare is committed to provide preventive, promotive and curative quality health Services at an affordable price to the people of the state.For this, a wide network of Health Institution consisting of hospitals, Community Health Centres, Primary Health Centres and Subsidiary Health Centres/ Dispensaries to cater to the health needs of the rural and urban population through well trained medical and paramedical staff have been established in the State.

Poshan Maah observed in collaboration with Social Welfare Department to generate awareness on importance of nutrition of infants and child and healthy life of mother. Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) is functional to cater to the Severe Acute Malnutrition child identified by H&FW and Social Welfare department through various programs. |
